Thank you for making Stephanie, Lenora and Jazmin's Secretaries' Day wonderful!

Nuts-n-Bolts

1.  Thank you so much your texts and emails yesterday.  It was a good day and one that I truly needed. :D

2.  Lunches for SBA.  6th grade students will have first lunch and 8th grade students will have 2nd lunch.  It's some of the 7th period classes during  2nd and 5th that we needed to make adjustments.  Please look over the schedule.  If you see problems, please ask either Steve or myself. Becky Jo had the idea to make posters of the SBA schedule to put around the building for students and staff LOL.  I will also communicate via Parent Square this weekend.

3.  Thank you for showing students my grouchy/stern video on bathrooms and Milleniels.  An uptick in behavior is not unusual for spring.  Supervision in the hallways during passing times, lunch supervision, mornings and at the bus is critical; our presence makes a difference.

4. I will revisit dress code on GNN tomorrow.  It's the crop tops 😖!  Unfortunately, they are what is 'big' for spring clothing.  I will keep reminding.

5.  Last week we had two students who were caught with vapes and marijuana on them.  We did suspend them for 5 days.  Yaneth and Addison are working to find lessons, videos, etc. that will be part of the 'suspension' upon return; substance abuse lessons so to speak.  In addition, Scott found out one place students are getting the marijuana.  It is a person or persons on Instagram.  Kids/adults follow, direct message the person, he/she meets them at Jefferson park and exchange the deal. Scott was able to give the screen shot of the Instagram account and some of the contacts to the police.  This is in part WHY we are cracking down on the bathrooms.  We will also be asking the police to transport to JJC.  Whether the student is released or not, is not the concern.  This trip to JJC will get them in the system and hopefully the help they need. Please please make sure you are only letting one student out of the bathroom at a time.  Ruben is walking and checking the bathrooms consistently.

6.  SBA testing is next week.  Let's go!!!!  We got this!!!  Monday and Tuesday will be 'all hands on deck' with counselors and admin out to support as well as trouble shoot when needed.  Let's give students extra encouragement and high fives!!

7.  Next Friday, May 5th we will meet in the library at 1:00.  This will be a time to look at the posters from the Student Summit.  This is data from the EES survey. Then you will have time to meet with your PLC team to go over your 30-60-90 goals, talk about the growth you have made as a team and upload your Student Growth Goal data. At 2:15, Scott and I will meet with Classified staff to go over their eval process.
Remember to complete this Google Doc before end-of-day tomorrow. STEPHANIE and LENORA will be SCHEDULING YOU, CERTIFICATED STAFF, based on your response.  If you want to meet during your planning, that appointment will be sometime between MAY 8 and MAY 23.

8.  8th grade recognition/promotion will be Wednesday, June 14th @7:00PM on the Pepsi stage at the Fairgrounds.  We will publicize this in our Saturday S'more newsletter to parents.  Alex will work on the power point which will be emailed to families.    I had Reagan Hendley reach out on behalf of NJHS to ask if a few of them could read the names of students.  I think that would be a great idea.  Robin and Beth worked with students on speeches last year.  Are you two still interested in doing this again this year? While this event is a month and half away, I just want to be prepared. :D  More details to come.

Wednesday, June 14th   Recognition at 7:00 PM
Thursday, June 15th  8th grade students go to the YMCA, return and have their own activity hour/dance
Friday, June 16th   6th and 7th grade students have an activity day.  8th grade students can come back.  They just don't participate in the activity day.

 Something to Ponder

This article is from AMLE (Association for Middle Level Education) website.  Short read while giving insight to students.  Information for us to be aware of when we are worried about students.  What came out loud and clear was the RELATIONSHIP between teacher and student is important!  Relationships matter so much!  Our students in all three grades echoed this same thing-relationships, relationships, relationships during our Student Summit.

Recognizing Gang Affiliation in the Middle School Classroom

I hope you find a gold nugget in this article.

Little Humor

This happened to me last night! Bob super glued the handle on a frying pan I was using. Yep! Didn't wait until I was done cooking.😤  I let the meat cook, turned and began cutting up the vegetables.  Clearly forgetting about the damn super glued handle... I became Spock! 😂

Upstairs bulletin board brought a smile to me today.
Yaneth, Addison and BMAC are working together on a Garden Club at lunch.  The focus is on students who have attendance issues.  Just one more thing to bring them to school. :D

3.  Next week on Thursday and Friday, we will start the online registering process for students in SST classes (6th and 7th grade students). Just wanted you to be in the know.

4.    8th grade students begin the science assessment the week of April 24th.  They will test during science class with the exception of identified resource room students which Brooke sent out communication via email.

5.  Things are going to move fast and furious! Here is a general idea of what is coming our way. :D April/May

6.  Shout out to all of you who have answered Stephanie's emails to help cover classes. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE have solid lesson plans in fact PLAN MORE than you think a sub will get through. We do have subs that follow plans.  We don't get days to do over.  iREADY Personal Pathways SHOULD NOT be your lesson plan.  It's going to get real old for students real quick. If you have questions about this, please come see me.

Something to Ponder

Jimmy Casas is a favorite speaker and author of mine.  As we head into 4th quarter, it is still full steam ahead with testing, 5th to 6th grade transition and end of year promotion/recognition ceremony can leave your tank empty.

This quick 17 minute podcast lit a fire for me to be reflective! The story of the teacher and student hit home.  I hope you find a gold nugget, think back to when you were in the interview chair and just know you are making a difference.
