 Thursday Thriller

June 8, 2023

I just got right to business this week.😆

Nuts-n-Bolts

 1.      Thank you for a great celebration yesterday. :D  I love what Shannon shared about our staff.  This IS a GREAT place to work. :D

2.    End-of-year Classroom/Tech Check out -  This is what Brent, Marco and Ian need from you before you leave for the summer:

  •  If  you have posters or pictures on the wall remove them if you want the wall washed behind them. If you are going to be in the same room you can leave stuff on the wall.

  • Please leave the furniture right where it is. Please don't move everything to one side.
  • If you need a repair please get it to the custodial staff.
  • It is a short summer so please stay away as much as possible.  We are asking staff to stay out of the building for the month of July.  The custodians have a quick turn around from end-of-year until August to get everything deep cleaned.  If you think you are tempted to come in, honestly...give me your keys. Seriously!  We have got to stay away so they can do their jobs.
Here is the link to print the Check Out Sheet.  Please turn it in Friday, June 16th end-of-day.  **If you are needing longer to check out, please talk to Kim.

3.Here is the rough draft of Wednesday-Friday June 14-16

4.  Here is the Google Doc to help volunteer the evening of Recognition

5.  Schedule for June 16th.  Trying to get this out early.  We are going to do our 2 last REQUIRED by LAW drills at 9:00.  Lock down with then an evacuation to the football field.  Call it good!.  If you have 8th grade students this day, you take them with you for the drill as if it were a 'normal' day with all students in your first period class.

6.  Here is a link to the invitation and directions to the GMS Staff party on Tuesday the 13th

7.  This August there are some important PD that I hope you will strongly consider attending. Our classes, all of them, have a range of learners within them. Just like our staff; we have various ranges and abilities.  Staff, just like students, don't always get 'it' on the first try.  So we adjust, strategize, reteach and re assess.  We do this for ALL students as we should.  August 17th is a day of Inclusionary Practices.  This is open to ALL K-12 teachers in all subject areas, counselors, everyone!  If there was any training at all that I would want you to attend, it would be this one.  ESPECIALLY special education teachers and those that have co taught.

Please don't forget to sign up for WWPS summer professional learning opportunities. Links below take you to PD enroller so you can sign up now!

Isabella C also did a super job!

Nuts-n-bolts

1.    We are rounding second base and heading to third...almost home!

2.    TUESDAY, JUNE 6th a new tradition is starting at WA HI and LINCOLN.  Seniors will be loading buses in their caps and gowns to visit their elementary and middle schools.  At 11:45 on Tuesday, seniors will arrive and follow this map.  What WA HI and Lincoln are asking is that if you have a class at that time to please line the hallways, cheer and clap. I think this will be pretty cool for both the seniors, teachers who will know these seniors and for students to see the 'end game.'

11:45 is during first lunch.  Supervisors can gather up students to cheer them on.  There will be an admin and counselor accompanying the seniors from the high school.

Since it's the first time, we will learn what to do and what to change for next year.  Thank you in advance for your flexibility and support.

2.  CELBRATION time is Wednesday at 2:45 in the library for all staff. Have you put your celebration in the slide show?  THERE IS A LOT TO CELEBRATE!  Little wins COUNT!!!

3.  Steve will be coming around to teachers who teach 8th grade students to check in regarding YMCA day for 8th graders on Thursday, June 15th.

Here is the rough draft of Wednesday-Friday June 14-16

*Yaneth and Addison are planning the 6th and 7th grade activity. We will communicate specifics early next week.

6. Scott will be out of the building.  He will return on Wednesday, June 7th. Please email student concerns to Becky Jo, Steve and me.

I have asked people who supervise during lunch, breakfast, before and after school to be even more vigilant.  We have had several student altercations.  What is the core altercations?  Not sure.  Students want to see other students fight so they can video it.  WE ARE DISCIPLINING BYSTANDERS and THOSE THAT VIDEO.  Students are using physical aggression...usually AFTER...there has been some smack talking via social media.  Whatever the case may be I want to shout out and thank:  Reggie, Ruben, Maria, Rigo, Yaneth, Addison, Becky Jo, Steve, Scott, Fahima,  and Ian as I have switched up what they are doing to be more present. We have also had some volunteer teachers out front to help with supervision.  What I am asking of you is STAY the COURSE.  We can't let down.  It's like the toddler who throws a fit, you are so damn exhausted you give in and the cycle repeats.   We need to call students on their BS and praise them for what they are doing well. THANK YOU in advance for your support.

7.  Thursday, June 8th is STEP UP DAY for our incoming 6th grade students. 1:00-2:00.  Becky Jo, Yaneth and Addison have it all planned.  They will be calling down students who are helping sometime tomorrow to let them know their jobs.  THANK YOU again to our PE Department for letting us use their classrooms -large/small gyms- for all these end-of-year events.

8.  Year books will be handed out the last week of school.  I'm thinking of Wednesday during 7th period.  I am open to suggestions.  I am pushing for the later the better in the week.
