Nuts-n-Bolts
1. Let's nominate some colleagues for the STAFF ACHIEVEMENT AWARD! This is a great honor to be a recipient of this award because you are nominated by your peers. Here is the application. May 10th is the due date.
2. GC team is going to focus more on the PLC work as we enter next school year. The past 2.5 years have been difficult through COVID to really dig into the PLC work. GC has done a lot of logistics and planning. With that being said, Carina and I are looking for staff members (classified and certificated) who would like to be a part of a Leadership/Logistics Team. The team would meet once or twice a month most likely in the morning but that is not set in stone and there would be green sheet for certs and blue sheet for classified. This table explains the difference between a Leadership/Logistics Team v. Guiding Coalition. If you are interested in being a member of the Leadership/Logistics team, please email both Carina and I, tell us why you want to be on the team AND what you would bring to the team. Tuesday, April 26th end of day, Carina and I will look through the multiple ;D emails and decide team members.
3. Please review the classroom exclusion process. Remember, you don't have to put up with disruptive behavior. Also, if you want to assign a student lunch detention email Babett, Ruben AND both Carina and me.
4. Keep sending the message if students see or hear anything that is concerning they can say something through text, phone, and email that is all anonymous. We actually had a report yesterday. A student reported another student being super mean to another student. Little by little the goal is to normalize reporting.
5. Tuesday, April 26th at 8:00 in the library Dr. Smith will be here to talk to staff. Right after that, Robin and Beth want to talk with you about 8th grade recognition.
6. How is the new morning routine going from 8:30-8:45? Any feedback or suggestions? Let me know.
Something to Ponder
We have approximately 120 students at Garrison that qualify for special education in one or more areas. This is almost 20% of our student body; inclusion matters. Self-contained classes, co-taught ELA/Math classes and para support are some ways we are providing access to gen ed classes for our special education students. This article highlights ways that we can further engage our students identified with disabilities in our gen ed classes. Students are gen ed students first and special ed, highly capable, 504, ELD second.
Hope you find a gold nugget in this article.
