CELEBRATIONS

1.  Jazmin has accepted the Registrar's position!!  CONGRATULATIONS!! She will move to Lenora's old position.  We are so excited!

2.  Yesterday's celebration went well, I heard!  Thank you to Beth, Shannon and Stephanie P. for putting this together to honor our staff retiring and moving on to new adventures. :D

2.  Last night's NJHS ceremony went off without a hitch!  Jami clocked it at 15 mins!  Boom!! Sue saved the day with the cake😊!  Thank you Jami and Sue, for your NJHS advising.  Amber will take the torch from Sue and lead with Jami.

3. ALL classes were covered today!  THANK YOU!!!!

4.  Mickie was nominated for Chief for the Day!  He was visited in class by Chief Knowles and crew.  Congrats to Mickie!

4.  We don't have school on Monday!

NUTS-n-BOLTS

1.  First and foremost buckle up!

2.  Thank you, again, for helping to cover classes.  Unfortunately, this won't be the last time this school year we ask.  If you are someone who has had your classes covered, please consider covering for a colleague when the SOS goes out.  We are all truly in this together!!!

3.    Count downs for last days of school that are posted can be both good and bad.  Please consider all students when if you post a countdown.  For some, school is a safe place where they are fed and adults care for them.  Summer may have a different meaning to them.  For 8th grade students, the anxiousness of going to high school could manifest in behaviors that don't always agree with our classroom management. While the count down for the adults means, "Hallelujah!!" Please know this is not the feeling for all of our students.

4.  Garrison is in need of a combination team made up of Safety, Social/Learning/PBIS,Discipline (discipline not as in punitive but more about how to help mitigate behaviors.  YES consequences still apply! It would be great to get input on the progressive discipline matrix that will be created).  PLEASE DON'T STOP READING...this work entails some training in August Yes, that month is a smaller font LOL. The team will be Myself, Nicole, Yaneth, a Counselor, Addison, Ruben.  We need TEACHER input and another CLASSIFIED person.  Nancy and Sean are part of the safety committee right now that deals with the Bricks and Mortar of the school, debriefing drills, etc.  I would like to combine all of this into one meeting.  Possibly once month-green sheet time. All of this goes together-Safety, SEL, PBIS you truly can't have one without the other.  This is not just for students but includes our staff.  PLEASE CONSIDER!!! If you are interested, email me.  Treats, green sheet, blue sheet all yours!
MONDAY, AUGUST 14th 8-11 will be the DISTRICT Training at SeaTech

6.  STEP CHALLENGE IS ON!!!
Ruben Garanzuay, our trusty campus support, proudly claims that he gets more steps in a day than any other staff member here at Garrison. With his blessing, I suggested we put that theory to the test. Blue Zones Project will be hosting a Step Challenge to see who actually gets the most steps! This contest will run from June 1 to June 15th, winners announced on June 16th.

Prizes for the Top 3 GMS Steppers tentatively include a cookbook, sweatshirt, water bottle, or a gift card to a local eatery.

Katie DePonty of Blue Zones Project (CC'ed) will be sending a follow up email inviting you to join the step challenge via the ShareCare app with instructions on how to connect your current step counter.

If you need help signing up please let ADDISON know! May the odds be ever in your favor.

7.  Tomorrow is the Day of Champions at the WA HI Track.  This is one of the coolest events for our special needs students and mentors.  Michelle sent out an email of the students who will be participating.  Best of Luck and ENJOY!!!

SOMETHING to PONDER

Helping Middle Schoolers become the best version of themselves.  There will always be haters.  How do we teach students to have solid anchors that determine their worth versus the number of 'likes'?  Strategies:  Blocking haters on social media, humor, helping students to take control of their social media and take the first step to mute and block.

Whether it is cyber bullying or targeted behaviors in schools, we most often go to the predator which we need to do.  However, students will be mean. How do adults help the victims to take control?  How can we help develop assertive social skills?  How do we help the students who think they are being funny when they are being hurtful?  Circling back to empathy.

This was a helpful podcast hearing how we have to help students develop empathy.  Some skills we have to teach!

Hope you find a gold nugget in this podcast.
